I am trying to be patient, as an ex trucker I know how free deliveries can take ages, also local area deliveries rely on a suitable couriers vehicle that can handle the lengths I have ordered from Simco. Unfortunately my antenna masting, 2 x 2" x 10ft poles plus coupler, seem a long time coming. I will try it with just a ground wire from the control unit to the radiator in the room and let you know the outcome. I will probably need lightning protection too so will have to insert a dongle before the cable enters the house.Īfter reading all the reviews, opinions, forums etc etc on the net I have gathered that grounding is very important for this particular active device. with Westflex coax entering the top floor room, where I keep the radios, through a hole in the wall (Don't tell my landlady). The mast will be clamped to a 5ft wall above the cave (don't ask, it's a very old house). The potential for long range reception is good as I can already get some HF Air over the Atlantic and Kinloss rescue although a bit noisy and more hash than a truckstop. It will be well away from phone and power cables or neighbours domestic TV etc. My house is tucked into a hillside so the garden is level with the second floor so my antenna will reach high above the rooftop. I need advice on how I can get around this problem. My problem is grounding, there is nowhere to plant an earth rod, no pipes or anything else to earth the mast.
Right now it is perched on a broomstick in my tiny concrete garden, waiting for a couple of 2" x 10ft poles to use its full potential.
I have recently purchased an RF Systems DX-1 Active antenna, second hand but in mint condition.
